A family-led English practice, in continuous private practice since 1995.

MJ Design & Building was founded in 1995 by Joga Singh as a West London builder undertaking private residential work. Three decades on, the firm operates principally upon substantial private commissions across Greater London, the Home Counties and the English shires—though our manner of working has not materially altered.
We remain family-led, deliberately modest in scale, and present upon every site we undertake. The work is the credential.
Architecture is built by hand, upon English soil, by the people on site.
A house is built but once. We treat every commission accordingly—whether it be a new principal residence in Buckinghamshire, or the wholesale refurbishment of an Edwardian villa in Northwood.

Discretion
Many of our projects are undertaken under non-disclosure. We do not photograph, publicise or otherwise trade upon our clients’ commissions.
Craftsmanship
We employ English tradesmen directly where we are able, and select specialist subcontractors carefully where we are not.
Programme
Time is a material consideration upon private work. We commit only to programmes we can demonstrably deliver.
Compliance
CDM 2015, NHBC, FMB and CHAS-accredited. Our health, safety and environmental obligations are not negotiable.
Continuity
The practice is in its second generation and is governed accordingly. Our clients deal directly with principals.
Stewardship
We work for clients whose horizons are measured in decades. The houses we build are intended to outlast us.
